Driver Education Fee

Due to state funding cuts during the 2011 Legislative Session, the North Carolina General Assembly cut over five million dollars from the state’s Driver Education allotment. Local school systems were given permission to charge each student enrolled in Driver Education a fee of up to $65.00 to make up for lost funds. In 2013, the North Carolina Driver Education budget was again reduced; therefore, beginning with the 2013-2014 school year, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System will charge a fee of $65.00 to students taking the classroom phase of Driver Education.
