Behind-the-Wheel Covid-19 Safety Protocol Information

CMS/JDS Safety Protocol Procedures

  • Teachers will take their own temperature each day before beginning instruction. If temperature is over 100.4, instruction may not be given.
  • Each day the teacher will do a self-health check for Covid-19 symptoms. Can you say yes to any of the following symptoms?
    • Flu-like symptoms
    • Fever or chills
    • Constant cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • Fatigue
    • Muscle or body aches
    • Constant headache
    • New loss of taste or smell
  • If the answer to any health question is "yes", you will be unable to give instruction that day. The following statements are also a part of the teacher and student health check. I attest that:
    • I have not traveled out of the United States with in the last 14 days.
    • I have not traveled to a highly impacted area within the United States in the last 14 days.
    • I have not knowingly been exposed to someone with a suspected or confirmed case of Covid-19.
    • I have not been diagnosed with Covid-19. Note: If you have been diagnosed with Covid-19, have you been cleared as non-contagious by state or local public health officials?
    • I am following all CDC recommended guidelines as much as possible and limiting exposure to Covic-19.
  • Each day, before BTW training, the parent and student will do the above health check. Should the answer to any symptom be "yes", the student may not drive that day.
  • Teacher will take student's temperature each day before student enters the vehicle. Temperature must be checked before the parent leaves the parking lot. If a student has a temperature of over 100.4, the student will not be able to drive that day. Should the answer to any symptom be "yes", the student may not drive that day.
  • Everyone in the vehicle, teacher and students, must wear a face covering. CMS and JDS will provide a cloth face mask for each student.
  • Prior to entering the vehicle and each time you change drivers, the student preparing to drive will clean their hands with hand sanitizer.
  • The vehicle will be sanitized before the beginning of each teaching session and each time you switch drivers. Disinfectant wipes will be used to sanitize the vehicle (1) door handles, inside and out, (2) seat (leather) and seatbelts, (3) steering column, (4) tum signals, (5) gearshift knob, (6) emergency brake, (7) dashboard area, (8) seat controls, head restraints, arm rests, (9) rearview mirror and adjustments, (10) writing utensils, if used, (11) any other frequently used surfaces. Note: Teachers will use gloves when disinfecting vehicle.
  • Windows will be partially open to move outside air through the vehicle. The vehicle A/C system should be set to pull in outside air and not set to recycle cabin air.
  • All teachers will practice 6-foot social distancing while instructing outside the vehicle and when conversing with the parents.
  • Student's personal items, including all cell phones, will be stored in the trunk throughout the duration of the driving session.
  • No more than 2 students may be in the vehicle at any time for training.
